Cycles: the secret to getting what you want
Our life is designed to work in cycles...from the solar system to our breath. So how can we use cycles to get what we want?
š§ This Weekās Musing
Iāve been thinking about cycles lately.
Ever noticed how life moves in cycles?
The sun rises, sets, and rises again everyday. Without fail.
The moon waxes and wanes.
We breathe in⦠and out.
Even our hearts beat in a rhythm.
Letās look at the planet we live onā¦
The Earth spins on its axis, orbits the sun, and returns to the same point, year after year.
In fact, our entire solar system is swirling through space in a cosmic dance.
What is the significance of this intelligent cyclical design?
Cycles are how we experience life
Take my 1-year-old for example. Sheās currently learning how to walk.
Every few minutes, she gets up, takes a few wobbly steps⦠and falls.
Then she tries again. And falls again.
But she keeps going.
Why?
Iām not sure why to be honest⦠Falling hurts. And if it were an adult⦠weād probably overthink it, question everything, and consider quitting.
But she? She falls and tries again and againā¦and surprisingly, with the same enthusiasm.
Sheās not reading motivational quotes. Sheās not doubting herself. Iām not sure if she consciously knows thisā¦but some part of her is sure she will walk if she just keeps trying.
And itās not just walking.
She crawled that way. She started sitting that way. Sheāll soon talk that wayā¦
Everything sheās learned so far has come through repetition and trust.
Trust is the secret ingredient
How does a child have such blind trust ā¦to keep repeating something that hurts in the moment?
And as adults, have we lost that?
We set goals and expect instant results.
We try something once or twice⦠and if it doesnāt āwork,ā we spiral into doubt.
āMaybe Iām not cut out for this.ā
āItās just not happening.ā
āI donāt want to waste time.ā
We break the cycle before it has a chance to take form.
Life seems to flow when we repeat our actions with trust. Thatās when mastery feels effortless (even though it is very much effortful.)
But without trustā¦we lose the power of cycles.
When we bring in force, overthinking, stress⦠we interrupt the rhythm. We stop showing up. Or we show up second-guessing ourselves.
And thatās what blocks this flow.
š Inner Experiment
If you have a goal youāve been struggling with, try this:
Pick one small action towards that goal⦠one that you can repeat daily. Do it every day for 30 days.
For instance, if your goal is to become fitter, maybe exercise for 10 minutes everyday.
If you want mental peace and clarity, journal every morning first thing when you wake up.
Here are the rules for this 30 day experiment:
Pick something small enough that youāll actually do it.
Pick an action that you believe works towards achieving that goal.
When you do this action everyday, say this to yourself:
āI step into the field of pure potentiality.I release attachment to outcome.
I trust that everything I create or do with intent
ripples outward in perfect timing and form.ā
Drop the expectations. No thinking about the outcome. No pressure.
Just show up and trust the cycle.
See what happensā¦Itās how weāre built!
Comment below on how your experience has been! Iād love to hear about it.
